Today we had Brian’s annual IEP review meeting, so we decided to go in a little early and surprise him with a lunchtime visit! He’d been asking us to do this for some time, and the timing lined up nicely. But, as it turned out, we didn’t get there in time to intercept him, and he already had his school lunch when we arrived.. So we just saved his Subway sandwich for later. 🙂 He got to choose one friend to join us, and he picked Ladd. After lunch, we had a little more time until our meeting, so we joined his class outside for walking club, and helped mark laps for the kids. We had a nice time visiting, and he seemed very pleased that both of us showed up to surprise him! We saw him in the halls later on, and he just beamed at us.
Speaking of surprises, tonight we had a note attached to Brian’s bookbag that said tomorrow is going to be Throwback Thursday, and to please send the kid in costume tomorrow, based on a nursery rhyme or fairy tale. Evidently they are getting all the computers re-imaged, and so, there’s no technology for anyone tomorrow..! They decided to embrace it, hence, Throwback Thursday. But really? Costumes, on one day’s notice? Well, we marched upstairs and thumbed through my old Mother Goose book, and Brian stopped on the “pat-a-cake” page, and said he just had to be the Baker’s Man. I said (with some relief!) we can do that, I can probably even make you a pie. Thanks to his existing chef hat and apron, and my stash of craft felt, I was able to knock out a costume with props. Whew! He’ll be ready tomorrow. 🙂

Great looking pies on a moment’s notice. When I saw the B on the pie I thought blueberry but then I realized it maybe meant Brian’s pie.
