Brian’s Journal
I was so impressed with Brian’s notebook, I took photos of every page, through today’s entries. He made a cool viking ship, a cool bumblebee (with pretty darn accurate description of what bees do!) and then a diagram showing the bees visiting flowers, bringing nectar back to the hive, making honey/honeycombs, and even showing the bee larvae. Then, lots of pages he made all about the caterpillars. (Sometimes he sounded out “Crepe Myrtles” instead of...

This morning, Brian was excited to see if the caterpillars were still at Goddard School, and boy, were they! I think there were even more than yesterday. We could hear them munching on the leaves! I was glad to see that even though they were doing a number on the tree, the folks at Goddard were letting nature take its course. Brian was so interested in these guys, that we looked up some information about them. It turns out, these Yellowstriped Oakworms rarely actually harm the tree....

Today we noticed some really cool looking caterpillars on the oak tree we usually park near at the Goddard School. Brian was really interested in them, so we got out of the car to take a closer look. Kendall’s shirt has a cute Princess Leia stuck behind Chewbacca saying “Will somebody get this big...

Today we finally did something we’ve been meaning to do for years–take the kids to the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill! Of course, they have actually been in the building before, but it was for a Lego event, and not for a planetarium show. Today, we saw that they were having a Magic Treehouse-themed show for the kids, and we thought that would be just about perfect. Brian has gotten into that series of books since we picked up the first 12 at his spring book fair, and he has...

Today we were off to Durham for more Easter-themed fun! The Museum of Life+Science has a Dino Egg Hunt annually, and we’d hoped to attend last year, but it didn’t work out. We did manage it this year, and the kids had a fantastic time! We visited some of their favorite things, like the boats, and the Soundspace 2 room, but the main attraction was the egg hunt! It was located in the woods adjacent to the dinosaur trail, in an area that isn’t usually open to the public. It...
