Today we finally did something we’ve been meaning to do for years–take the kids to the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill! Of course, they have actually been in the building before, but it was for a Lego event, and not for a planetarium show. Today, we saw that they were having a Magic Treehouse-themed show for the kids, and we thought that would be just about perfect. Brian has gotten into that series of books since we picked up the first 12 at his spring book fair, and he has a Magic Treehouse-themed camp at Marbles coming up. So, off we went! We went a little early so we could get lunch and just hang out a bit before the show. We started off our day at Cosmic Cantina, and got a nice lunch of burritos and quesadillas. Brian loved sitting right by the kitchen window and watching the magic happen! Afterward, we walked around a bit, and spent some time looking at this cool mist art sculpture. I liked how even the graffiti in Chapel Hill is bookish (that’s a Harry Potter reference!) Next up, we visited the Yogurt Pump. The kids enjoyed some classic frozen yogurt, just as we had for so many years in Chapel Hill. Then, it was time to head to the show, so we made the walk back over to the planetarium. The show was really cool, and might have given us some hints as to what we could expect going forward in the Magic Treehouse series! The planetarium was closing for a private event right afterward, but as I suspected, they didn’t exactly kick us out if we had money to spend, so we picked up a cool science t-shirt for Brian. I fell in love with some cool planetary plates, but didn’t see them until we were already checking out–I didn’t want to push my luck any further by making things take longer. 😉 After that, we walked around Coker Arboretum some, enjoying the lovely plants (and some animals!) We showed the kids where we were married, and then took the wisteria and carolina jasmine vine tunnel back to the car. We were pretty exhausted by then, but it had been a great day! I hit up the Fresh Market on the way out of town, and bought us a bunch of bottled juices and some fresh fruit to enjoy back at home. 🙂
