Brian’s Playdate, Kendall’s Trike!

Today, Brian had a playdate with one of his good buddies from Root, Ladd!  He was so excited to have Ladd come over for the first time, and a little surprised–Ladd arrived with a brand-new cast on his arm.  He’d taken a tumble at school on Friday and it turned out, he’d broken it.  Brian knew about hurt arms after his own hairline fracture last fall, and was happy to sign Ladd’s cast before anyone else at school.  The boys played video games, staged a big Star Wars battle, and built many creations with Legos.  I helped them make smoothies for a snack, and when they were checking out the play kitchen, Brandon surprised Brian with the fruit stand he’s been working on!  He’d designed and built this custom set of fold-up shelves to hold the toy food baskets over the past few weeks.  Brian was so happy and excited, he gave Brandon the biggest hug!  He even seemed a little bit verklempt. 😉  All too soon, the playdate came to an end, and as Ladd was leaving through the garage, he and Brian managed to stall by riding bikes and plasma cars.  Ladd’s little sister wanted to get in on the action, and borrowed Kendall’s plasma car–but poor Kendall had just woken up from her nap and did not take kindly to this turn of events!  She howled so bad, we brought down the tricycle to try and distract her..  We didn’t expect her to really try to pedal it, since Brian couldn’t do it until well after his 3rd birthday, but she surprised us all!  She just took off, forwards even, so quickly we could hardly strap Brian’s helmet on her!  After Ladd left, we decided, if we wanted to start good helmet-wearing habits early with her, like we did with Brian, we had to get her a bike helmet, today!  So, we took a quick trip over to Target to find a bike helmet for her, and we were happy to find a cute Hello Kitty one!  I picked up a cute bathtub tea set for Kendall as well, figuring Brian might enjoy it as well, since he’s forever making us pretend drinks, ice cream, etc. in the bathtub.  When we got home, Kendall tried out her new helmet, and rode the trike all around the garage!  She was so proud of herself, and of course we were all so happy for her!  Still a little amazed how she figured it out so quickly. 🙂  Brian cheered her on, being a really supportive big brother!  I unveiled the tea set at bathtime, and as expected, both kids really enjoyed it!  The included squirt-toy cupcakes were a nice touch. 😉
