Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day!  Our first (and probably best) present for Brandon was to let him sleep in today.  I bought him some time by keeping the kids busy making a pancake breakfast.  They helped me decorate the pancakes with Hello Kitty stamps, using chocolate and strawberry syrup, and with Star Wars stencils, using powdered sugar and cocoa powder.  We also made up a big batch of citrus water, using our new beverage dispenser.  This doubled as a sort of science experiment for Brian, seeing which fruits float, and which fruits sink, and speculating about why.  Later on, we decided to go out to get Brandon’s official present, a nice new Weber grill!  Our previous little grill had lasted since our earliest days in Chapel Hill, and was now rusting to the point of disintegration.  Nobody can say it didn’t have a good long run, but, its time had definitely come!  Brandon had talked to Steve about what grills are good back at Easter, and had pretty much decided then what he wanted.  So, today was the day to make it happen!  We stopped on the way to Lowe’s to get lunch, at Taco Bell of all places.  Not fancy, but it is something that Brandon loves, and Brian had really been wanting to try the Doritos Locos taco (and I think Brandon wanted to try it, too!) The boys tried it, and by all accounts, it was indeed a taste sensation unlike any other. 😉  Then, we were off to Lowe’s, where Brandon found that the grill was indeed in stock (yay!  the app didn’t lie!)  He picked up some additional accessories, including a grill basket (which I am very much looking forward to!)  The kids were a little wild, and climbed all over the John Deere lawn tractors (when they weren’t running up and down the aisles in opposite directions!)  We got the grill home, and Brandon worked on assembling it while Kendall napped.  Brian and I amused ourselves with water balloons in the back yard (and yes, Brian was very diligent about cleaning up the balloon pieces afterward!)

Pretty fancy grill. I like the photo of Kendall (wearing a tutu) on a John Deere tractor.
