Summer Camp Week 1 Roundup!

Woo!  This week started Brian’s summer off with a summer camp double header.  He was at the NC Museum of Natural History in the morning for the boys-only Science of Ick camp, and at Marbles for a Cook A Book camp in the afternoons.  I had hoped that since the camps are both downtown, that the 45 minutes break between them would work out okay, and as it turned out, it really was!  In fact, it was really quite nice, getting a break from work to walk over to Natural History, have a picnic lunch with Brian at the tables there, and then walking over to Marbles for his afternoon session, and then back to the office.  We really enjoyed it greatly, and the timing all worked out perfectly.

At Natural History, Brian learned about the science of some icky things that boys love!  His schedule was:

  • Monday- Scat- What’s that? -Make your own scat!   (Not as horrifying as it sounds–this involved Play-Doh, bones, and feathers!)  😉
  • Tuesday- Worms & Dirt -Visit to the Naturalist Center
  • Wednesday- Slimy Things -Snot slime!
  • Thursday- Insects & Arachnids -Meet some LIVE critters!
  • Friday- Icky Science Day -Fun messy experiments

At Marbles, Brian got to actually cook some healthy snacks, based on some fun stories that they read together:

Kids CookCook a Book

  • Monday: Pizza at Sally’s  (mini pizzas with grilled vegetables)
  • Tuesday: Stone Soup  (gazpacho soup)
  • Wednesday: Oliver’s Fruit Salad  (fruit salad, with fresh mint leaves)
  • Thursday: An Apple Pie for Dinner (mini apple pies!)
  • Friday: Chicks & Salsa  (tomato salsa, and fresh-baked tortilla chips)

Brian really enjoyed all the recipes he made, and they sounded really healthy–using lots of local fresh vegetables!  He got a recipe book at the end of the week, so maybe we can make some of these creations together. 🙂  The books sounded really fun, too!  Might have to add them to his wish list. 😉  Brian always had so much fun at the Marbles after-care, he never wanted to leave!  They did have new and fun toys and activities in the room every single day, so I can’t blame him one bit!
