Friday Night Out

It’s Friday Night, and a Parent Night Out, and even though Brian had his Initiation to Hockey class, we didn’t want to miss out!  I’m still recovering from surgery, but things seem a little better today and I thought I might be up for going out.  I took it easy for awhile as Brandon took Brian to class after school.  I took a couple photos of the fun felt items I’ve made while lying about in bed recovering.  I thought I’d done a good job on those sugar wafers at the time, but looking at them now, my stitches are all over the place!  I’ll blame all the drugs instead of my lack of skill, I guess.  😉  I finally started making the felt pie slices I had decided to make last year, and randomly, a Peeps bunny (even though springtime is a ways off!)  I guess I’ll blame the drugs for that bit of inspiration, too–oh, and the tiny pieces of felt candy corn that I painstakingly stitched together (not pictured).  What was I thinking!  😀

After hockey, Brandon dropped Brian off at Goddard afterward, and picked me up and we went over to McCormick & Schmick’s for a nice seafood dinner.  We each had really enjoyed a specialty drink last time we went, and today we hoped to revisit our favorites–but they weren’t on the menu!  We asked our waiter, who asked the bartender, who asked a manager, and it turned out, they had given us an old menu by mistake.  So, we got to enjoy our favorites after all!  (Well, after sampling some other beverages that were Just Awful.)  We’re not big drinkers (seriously–don’t worry, Mom!), but we did enjoy these as a date-night treat!  I’ll put their descriptions here just for historical purposes, since we bothered to take photos, and these beverages practically became a quest–it’s not like us to actually pursue asking for something off-menu!  Maybe we’ll try to recreate them one day.  Haha, here’s a game:  guess which of us liked which drink?  Answers after the photos.  😀  Also included, video of Brian on the ice, and photos of Kendall in her wacky getup on the way to school this morning.

Framboise Royale: Jameson Irish Whiskey, Lindemans Lambic Framboise, simple syrup, fresh muddled raspberries, mint and lemon

Forest Bramble: Death’s Door gin, Domaine de Canton Ginger liqueur, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, Pimm’s Blackberry and Elderberry

Answers:

Framboise Royale – Brandon

Forest Bramble – Alison

Update:  Hey, thanks, Internet!  It appears a bartender had made herself some online flashcards to study the fall menu–and, now we have the real recipes!  You never know until you look.  😀

The felt cookies are such a good idea for kids to play with in their make-believe world. When I was younger, I loved “grasshoppers” – creme de menthe, creme de cocoa and ice cream blended together, plus “pink squirrels” were yummy, too just substitute creme de almond instead of creme de menthe. I think they are Wisconsin supper club drinks as we could not find the ingredients at our super-sized liquor store, Cheers.
