Holy moly, what an action-packed day! To start off our busy Saturday, Brandon took Brian to the Lowe’s Build and Grow program. Brian got to build a wooden garage and a little car to go in it, with a real hammer and nails! He got to decorate them with stickers, and he was so proud of his creation. What a fun (free!) activity at the local Lowe’s store. We’re going to have to sign up for more of these! I stayed home with Kendall and we had a little girl time to ourselves.
When the boys were done, it was time to head over to the open house party at Goddard. The theme was “Let it Snow” and they had trucked in a giant pile of real snow for the kids to play in! What fun–especially because it was unseasonably warm today, in the mid-70’s. 😀 Brian had a blast sledding down the little hill with his buddies. They had snowball fights and splashed through the very muddy playground (I can’t believe he didn’t get coated in mud! My shoes will never be the same.) Kendall came outside for awhile and Brandon tried to get her to walk some, but she would only take some steps if he was holding her hands. She spent some time in her classroom, and we talked to her teachers some more. I think we’re going to try to get her some high-top shoes to see if the extra stability helps. Kendall loves the books and this big fluffy purple pillow in her classroom. I asked her teachers if she likes to bite big chunks out of the board books at school like she does at home, and yes, it seems she does..! They don’t seem to mind. 🙂
After the party, Brian decided we needed to have some more lunch–I guess he was too busy in the snow to have many snacks! He wanted to go to Char-Grill, but it was too crowded, so we decided to take it home and have a picnic on the porch. We even took Kendall’s high chair out on the porch, and both kids seemed to really enjoy it! Sunny and warm, what a nice surprise in January.
We had just a little bit of downtime, and then it was time for Brian to head to his friend Riley’s birthday party. It was different, in that it was an indoor pool party at a hotel! Brian has been doing well in swimming lessons, so he was more confident at this party than at some previous pool parties! Brandon said a great time was had by all. I enjoyed some more quality time with Kendall at home. She enjoyed playing with Brian’s cars with him not around (shhh! don’t tell him!) and she had a lot of long, involved conversations on her toy phone. She’s so funny talking on the phone, with the long pauses, changing expressions, and her babbles vary from happy, surprised, perplexed, exasperated, and everything in between. I can’t wait until she can tell me everything that’s going on inside her head, I can tell there’s a lot. 🙂

- Goddard Open House | The Perkins Family - [...] Sort of a Christmas-in-July treat for the kids. :) Brian loved it just as much as he did back…

What a wonderful and fun-filled day! Good for Brian for doing well in swimming class! It’s hard and that’s quite an accomplishment! Who knows? Maybe Kendall will become an actor someday – sounds like she really has the expressive creativity that it takes! 😀
