Sweet Saturday

It was another busy Saturday!  We started off bright and early with Brian attending his summer reading class over at NC State, at 8am (ouch!).  It’s tough to get up early on a Saturday, but it’s a really fun program, and he’s enjoying all the books we’re reading.  Plus, I think all the phonics work will really help out in Kindergarten.  I’ve pretty much already decided, we’ll do this again next summer!  Brian was very proud that he got to circle the letter B on the board today in class.  Another good lesson he’s learning is about raising his hand, and how to deal with the disappointment when he isn’t chosen to speak.  I’m just glad he’s enthusiastic about participating, and having fun!

After class, we raced across town for Brian’s haircut.  We saw they had Star Wars videotapes, so he got to watch his favorite, Episode IV, while he got his haircut.  We were surprised to see Daddy and Kendall show up at the salon!  They were in the area, having made the trip out to a Home Depot to get supplies for Brandon’s continuing garage project.  Kendall enjoyed playing at the kitchen center and on the slide at the kids’ salon.  Afterward, Brian and I headed to the library to pick out some new books.  On the way out of the parking lot, Brian noticed a car with pink hubcaps and zebra-print sunshades, and thought this was so silly, he begged and begged me to take a photo.  We even had to make an extra lap so he could see it from all sides.

At the library, Brian noticed a book cover with some funny golfers on it–he said he needed to give it to Grandpa Steve.  I had to remind him that the library wasn’t like a store, and we can’t buy or give their books away!  But, he insisted that we take a photo and tell Grandpa Steve about this book–sounds like it’s a murder mystery, but of course Brian just liked the golfers. 🙂

Back at home, we played Legos for a good part of the afternoon, and I generally tried to keep the kids busy and happy while Brandon worked in the garage.  I’m not going to win any mother-of-the-year awards considering all the sugar I let them have today!  But we had a lot of fun.  🙂  We cleaned out the pantry and finished off a lot of mostly-gone snacks, ate strawberry-yogurt popsicles while watching Nova, shared a chocolate bunny (yes, we still had one from Easter!) and we even made a cake!  Eventually we all needed some real food and were too exhausted to do much else, so we got dinner at Guasaca.  Back at home, we sampled our cake, and then had to call it a night.  Whew! 😀
