This morning, I volunteered in Brian’s classroom for a couple hours! This was a lot of fun, and I think Brian was really happy to have me there. His teacher suggested that instead of bringing sugary treats for classroom birthday celebrations, we could donate a book to the class instead. I thought that was a great idea, and knew exactly what book to give! It took awhile for me to be able to come in and read it to the class, but Brian was so excited to share “The Day The Crayons Quit” with his friends! I did the very best dramatic reading that I could, hamming it up for maximum giggles. The kids and teachers both seemed to enjoy it. I got to stay for awhile afterward, and help the kids with their literacy center activities, and get a window into what some of Brian’s day is like. I found myself surprisingly comfortable helping the kids, encouraging them with their letters and writing. I also saw firsthand how Brian really does seem to be in the top of the class academically! Not ashamed to admit I have a little extra mom pride about my boy today. 🙂 The kids were so cute greeting me after work today! We didn’t plan it, but they both wore orange today and made quite the fall-themed pair. 🙂

The book gift instead of treats is a great idea. There has been a lot of orange in Colorado this fall with Halloween and Broncos apparel. Grandpa Roger painted an old black milk can we had bright orange. Nice photos of Brian and Kendall.
