We thought the birthday activity was all but over with today, but when Brian was brushing his teeth, I heard a small little worried sound, a “what the..”, and then “Mommy!!!!!” I went to see what was wrong, and surprise! Brian had lost his first tooth! I mean, really lost it–he had brushed it right out, and it went flying across the counter, into the other sink, and right down the drain. The horror!! Brian was a little freaked out by the surprise and blood of it all, not to mention the thought that his tooth might be gone forever! Brandon was really wigged out about the teeth and blood thing, but, I handled getting Brian a new pajama top and stopping the bleeding with a cold washcloth, while Brandon removed the trap and retrieved the lost tooth! Yay, Daddy saved the day. 🙂 He was our hero, even if he had to hightail it out of there as soon as the deed was done, yelling behind him that no, Brian, he really didn’t need to see the hole that was left behind. 😉
I cleaned up the tooth up and let Brian pop it into his tooth pillow. (That had caused a bit of drama of its own recently! When Brian’s tooth started wiggling, I panicked because I’d bought him this rocketship tooth pillow when he was probably just one year old, but could not remember where I’d put it. I tore the house apart looking for it, over days and days, and now that I’m writing this, I can’t even remember where I finally found it, but at least I’d located it in time for it’s intended purpose! Now, I know they made a girls’ one too, I will try to track that down for Kendall so they match. And hopefully, I won’t lose it!) Soon, Brian was off to sleep, and the Tooth Fairy realized she was a little short on cash. Yikes! Luckily, Brandon had a great idea, and we raided both of our own “interesting coin” collections from when we were kids. Brandon still has his check box of coins wrapped in tissue, and I’d kept all the international coins that my dad gave me (sometimes they’d turn up in the store, and since he couldn’t deposit them, he’d pass them on to me!) Between us, we were able to come up with a pretty interesting collection to donate to Her Toothiness, so we’re looking forward to seeing Brian’s reaction!

That’s quite a gap where your tooth fell out, Brian. Hope the tooth fairy left something special under your pillow.
