Happy Birthday to Brian! He’s an extra-lucky birthday boy today, because it’s a teacher workday at Root! No school on his birthday, that’s pretty special. 🙂 I took the day off to hang with him, and we started it off with birthday cards, a couple surprises from me, and a box from Grandpa Roger! Both kids really enjoyed opening up the box from Grandpa. Then, Kendall was off to school, and Brian and I started our day. We got some things ready for the party tomorrow, and we decorated Brian’s piñata, using cut-out scraps from some of the party packaging. Brian always encourages us to reduce, re-use, and recycle, so he was very pleased with this activity. 🙂 Later on, I surprised Brian with a trip to the Lego store for one of his very favorite activities–the pick-a-brick wall! I let him get a big container full of as many pieces as he could fit inside, and, a Lego City starter set, since it’s thematic. Brian also got to make three custom minifigures–he loves making his own creations! We spent a long time there, and since it was his birthday, I let him play at the bins for as long as he wanted. Eventually, we realized that we’d missed lunch, and needed to eat pronto! We ended up at the Cheesecake Factory and had a special fun lunch, just the two of us. I even said he could get the ice cream sundae for dessert. After that, we went home and did some chalk drawing on the driveway, making some fun birthday decorations for Brian. Then, it was time to get the cake! It’s a lemon cake (well, vanilla cake with lemon curd injections throughout!) with lemon buttercream frosting, and decorated with some Lego City guys and bricks stacked on top. Pretty awesome! We’re all looking forward to the party tomorrow, I’m sure the cake will be a hit! I’m glad I got to spend Brian’s birthday with him today, we had so much fun, and I think it was pretty special for him, too. 🙂
