Today was Brian’s Thanksgiving play at Root! He was adorable dressed up as a construction-paper pilgrim. 🙂 Each kid had a few lines to recite, and every few lines the class did a song together. Brian had been practicing his lines quite a bit, and was well prepared. We’d even overheard him singing the songs now and then, when he thought we weren’t listening! He had wanted them to be a surprise. 😉 Brian was just bursting with pride as he marched into the room, he was so happy to see us both there! All the kids did a great job, and the songs were very cute. I did my best to get some photos through the throng of smartphone-wielding parents (of which I was one, I suppose!) Brandon managed to snag some video, which we’ve included below. Even Ms. Sarah Catherine came by to visit. After the play, the kids went outside for recess, while us parents decorated their classroom and laid out a potluck Thanksgiving feast for them. Root’s PTA moms don’t mess around, and I bet Martha herself would have approved of the decorations, and the feast. 🙂 We enjoyed seeing more of Brian’s classroom, and his artwork. We saw some of his personal items that we hear a lot about, like his walking club necklace (the kids earn feet charms to put on it, the more laps they walk or run!) We also saw his classroom job assignment indicator–this week, he is the Messenger! It was fun to see the kids play a bit, and we had a laugh about the plastic sushi being inside the cash register (the same one he liked so much at Goddard–that is on his Christmas list!) And the boys pushing around the sock monkey in the shopping cart (that’s also on his Christmas list!) We saw the famous Golden Spatula award (still not totally clear on that, but I think good behavior at lunchtime is involved in earning this glittery honor!)
Soon, it was time to go, and we let Brian finish up his day at school. We had our own mission to accomplish–picking up Kendall’s birthday cake! We went home briefly, and then headed out toward the Cupcake Shoppe–and we saw Brian’s white bus on its way to Laurel Hills! He didn’t see us, but we thought it was neat to see his bus. Kendall’s cake was adorable, and matched her party supplies very well! It even had a dusting of edible glitter! I think she will love it. After school, we picked up the kids and realized we needed a few last-minute supplies for her party.. So we took the kids out to dinner at Pei Wei, and then went over to Party City. Brian wanted this shiny plastic sword from the leftover-Halloween supplies.. But we figure he has armaments enough already. When we got home, Brian showed us the birthday card he’d made for Kendall–so sweet! “Kendall I love you so, I love love”–aww..! It even had a cake with two candles and pizza. 🙂

Grandma enjoyed watching the video of your Thanksgiving program, Brian. You did such a good job of memorizing your lines to the story and songs. It was like I was at the program sitting in one of the seats.
