Today was the Spring Book Fair at Root, and of course, we couldn’t miss that! Brian had a list of books he wanted, and found a lot more! Kendall found a pile she wanted as well. We tried to be selective, but we still ended up with a heavy load. Some notable purchases were Lego box sets for each kid, with 3 books and a mini set in each, and a pack of the first 12 Magic Treehouse books. I’m looking forward to those, since they are a good bridge to chapter books for little kids, and the time-traveling treehouse visits many different places and historical time periods. The Treehouse books are popular enough to have continued on for 50+ volumes! One of Brian’s summer camps at Marbles will have a Magic Treehouse theme, with each of the five days being based on the first five books. We should probably get started on these right away, if we want to finish before camp starts! Sorry, no pictures from inside the actual book fair, our hands were full, carrying books and chasing the kids in opposite directions in the crowd! We had hoped to get dinner at the taco truck that was onsite, and get ice cream for dessert from another one of the vendors, but.. Like most Root events, this one was absolutely mobbed, and I don’t think the poor taco truck was quite prepared for the hundreds of hungry families. The line didn’t seem to move the entire time we let the kids play on the playground (about 45 minutes). Brian did have a great time playing with some of his classmates, and Kendall seemed to really enjoy the big-kid playground there! Eventually we just had to give up and go someplace else, and although Brian was pretty upset about leaving at first, we made it up to him by picking Guasaca for our dinner, and we even promised to go to Orange Leaf afterward for frozen yogurt. He was all smiles as he tucked in to his huge dessert creation there!
