Brian wore his fancy new “science is awesome” tee shirt today! We picked this up at the planetarium when we went to Chapel Hill. Brian went to the doctor today, as we found a tick on him last night while washing his hair, and we were concerned.. But the doctor said it was removed cleanly and that we probably don’t have anything to worry about. Fingers crossed!

Science is awesome. Neat t-shirt, Brian. One has to worry about tick bites especially the deer tick which causes Lyme Disease. The deer tick is very small about the size of a sesame seed and has a reddish brown body. We used to have to identify them in a lab. Once there was a test called the bug crush test – keep the tick alive, send it to Madison to the State Lab where they crushed the poor little fellow and looked for Bordelia burdorferi, the bacteria that causes Lyme.
