So Long, Kindergarten!

So Long, Kindergarten!

Well, he did it!  Brian has finished his first whole year as an elementary schooler, and completed Kindergarten today with flying colors.  It’s a little bittersweet, of course, but new fun and adventures await in first grade–not to mention the summer filled with many different camp experiences!  Sadly, today Brian has to say goodbye to the after school program at Laurel Hills, since they have cancelled the transportation service from Root for next year.  Theoretically, Root will have its own after-school program starting in the fall, but Brandon and I are a little nervous, since it doesn’t seem to be a done deal as of yet.  I guess we’ll hope for the best for now, and deal with the worst should it come to that in the fall!  We asked Brian how he would like to celebrate, and he asked to go to Golden Corral.  Now, Brandon and I may have enjoyed it back in the 80’s as kids, before they went full-on buffet insanity.  But now, meh, it’s not all that good, and feels sort of icky.  We don’t like it anymore, and have said no every time Brian has begged to go there for the past 8 months or so of hockey season.  (All the commercials make it sound like a great idea to him!)  But, today was about him, not about us, so we gave in.  He was so happy to get the chance to go there!  He loved having all the choices, and the chocolate fountain was a big hit, of course! 😉  I think maybe he did start to understand that the food isn’t actually all that delicious (well, maybe except for that cake!), but it was worth sharing the experience, I guess!  Clearly, it was meant to be, since even the ketchup-bottle trivia question we got was about Brian’s favorite book, The Day The Crayons Quit. 😉

We have never liked those buffets either but it was Brian’s day. Congratulations, Brian for a successful kindergarten year.
