Summer Camp, Week 2 Roundup

This week, Brian was back at Marbles for a morning camp session based on Magic Treehouse!  I’ve probably mentioned those books before, but they are a really fun series of books that are about a brother and sister who travel through time and space to visit many historical or otherwise exotic locations!  They are a good early chapter book for kids Brian’s age, and he really loves reading them with me.  The stories have sparked some really fun conversations about the various times and places.  The older brother in the book, Jack, is very studious, and is forever consulting books for additional data, and taking notes about what he sees and learns.  His little sister, Annie, is a free-spirited girl, who is impulsive and loud and sometimes might get them into trouble!  Brian seems to relate to Jack (especially on days where Kendall has challenged his patience!) and I think he’s influencing Brian just a bit!  I’ve noticed an uptick in Brian saying things like “I need to take some notes about this.”  😉  Our goal was to complete the first five books before camp started this week, and we did it!  I’m just really happy that Brian is excited about books and enjoying a more advanced series like this, begging for “just one more chapter!”  Ohhh, kiddo, you just wait until we start Harry Potter.  😉

Because we didn’t have an afternoon option for Brian this week, we took him back to Red Hat Tower most days.  On Tuesday we met up at Chuck’s for fancy hamburgers and milkshakes.  I couldn’t do the walk to Marbles due to a meeting, but I met the boys just as they arrived!  Brian was so excited to see me, he ran most of the block!  We had amazing burgers, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and took our shakes to-go.  Marbles started sending out some more detailed updates on what the campers are up to this week, so I took some screenshots and included those here!  There’s a cute picture of one of Brian’s classmates with his paper torch–Brian was so proud of his own torch!  He was very thoughtful about making it, and explained it at great length to us!  Brian’s schedule this week was:

Magic Treehouse Adventures

9am-12pm

Monday: Dinosaurs at Dark
Tuesday: The Knight at Dawn
Wednesday: Mummies in the Morning
Thursday: Pirates Past Noon
Friday: Night of the Ninjas

Brian has skating lessons on Tuesday evenings this session, so that means Kendall and I have some extra playtime together on those days!  This Tuesday she wanted to ride her tricycle around in the garage!  She was so adorable.  She’s wearing one of those Star Wars letter t-shirts again–those are some of her favorite things to wear!  Also included some photos of her using the potty (wearing yet another Star Wars tee!)  She is pretty much 100% on her potty training during the day–I can’t believe how easy it’s been with her. 🙂  She still loves her bathtub tea set, and she and Brian sometimes set up a whole restaurant in the tub.  Brian wrote up a very extensive menu for their pizza restaurant!  We now have a more-than-adequate selection of lawn chairs, now that we’ve also picked up a couple of Star Wars themed kid chairs!  We first picked up a used RD-D2 chair, thinking it was the only one (how wrong we were..!)  When we saw there was a Captain Rex version, we just had to get it for Brian.  The Star Wars chairs are a little short, and Brian chuckled about that a some, but they are certainly still usable for him, and actually, a lot easier for Kendall to get in and out of.

Speaking of Kendall, one of her favorite movies right now is Tangled, and her favorite part is the “I’ve Got A Dream” song (video below).  She sings “I got a dream, I got a dreeeeeam!” all the time!  I asked her, “What’s your dream, Kendall?”  She said:

“Be Princess Leia!  Help Luke, swing across.  Play bongo drum.”

So funny!  So adorable!  So amazing she remembers the bridge swing scene from Episode IV.  And clearly, Brian’s tiger drum from our zoo trip has also made an impression.  😉  She would not say it again once I brough out my phone, but her just being silly while I tried to get her to say it again is cute enough.

Also included, a sleepy Brian (I guess camp really takes it out of you!) and one random picture of me at work!  I was chosen to represent the IT “systems engineer” persona for our marketing teams, so they did a semi-professional photo shoot, and they gave me this head shot that I can use.  🙂
