July Beach Trip, day 2

Today was another fun-filled day at the beach!  The kids were up bright and early as usual, and started the day by playing with Legos in their jammies.  I played with my new camera some, it’s got a lot of fun features like selective color effects and even a “glamour” mode–which I’ll probably not use very much.  😉  Kendall really wants my purple camera case.  We went out for breakfast, and Kendall took her prized mermaid Hello Kitty along–a special gift from Brian.  We took the kids to the pool, and all had a great time splashing around.  Brian was much better at swimming independently now, and Kendall loved getting pulled around the pool in the turtle floatie.  Later, we spent a little time outside watching the hurricane blow in–yep, a hurricane was due to hit today.  We spotted one of Steve’s backyard friends, a Carolina anole he calls Stumpy, since he lost his tail awhile ago (it’s growing back, though!)  It was so cool watching him change colors from bright green to brown.  Back inside, I brought out the stamp sets I’d bought for the kids, and they made some fun stamp art.  Kendall liked the one we made with her name and a rainbow-colored mermaid!  She also loved her new sundress, which she called her “mermaid dress”–a pretty teal color with silver sparkles throughout.  We had dinner together, including a cake for dessert.  Kendall was so funny saying “no cake for you!” and then celebrating once she decreed cake could be had.  Steve got the storm shutters all closed up as the sky started really darkening.  I let the kids play with glow sticks as we watched the weather report (those are always fun, and reassuring, even if we lose power!)  Later, we watched Frozen together.  By the end, a very sleepy Kendall was curled up in a blanket, clutching her “bunny”–a Lego creation she made all by herself.  The eye of the storm very nearly passed right over us, but on the whole, the category 1 hurricane was pretty much a non-event.  We stayed up really late, but we still managed to read some Magic Treehouse before bed!

Here’s a video of some random moments!  The porch swing with Kendall was actually from yesterday.  😉

I read about the Carolina anole: had never seen that word before. The video sounds were amazing: sea breezes, birds and the kid’s voices. I feel the same way about chocolate cake, Kendall.
