Today on our beach trip, we went to the real, actual, sandy beach! We weren’t sure which one to visit, but we ended up heading towards Pine Knoll Shores and driving around until we found a public beach access. Of course the parking was not adjacent to said access, so, we had quite the hike along the side of the road, carrying all of our gear! But, once we got there, the beach was lovely. Absolutely perfect beach weather, warm and sunny, cool water, a nice breeze. Brian was super excited to start splashing around in the surf! Kendall took a little time to get used to the idea, and held onto my hands so tightly, as we enjoyed the feeling of the surf pulling the sand around our feet! Soon, she was splashing and having a blast, too. We took breaks to drink water and re-sunscreen every so often, huddling under an umbrella we borrowed from Sue. We noticed the canopy that another family had, down the beach–seems pretty cool, we might want one of our own. The wind was perfect for kite-flying, and we’d brought our best kite (the rocket ship one we got at the Smithsonian Air&Space museum.) Brandon had the kite up in the air in no time, and both kids took turns flying the kite. When we’d had enough of the sand and surf (and heat!) we packed it up and then…had to make the exhausting trek back to the car. We did enjoy the trees and shade for the first part of the walk! By the time we made it, Brian was noticing all the sand everywhere, and he was starting to feel uncomfortable. On the drive back to the house, he really became uncomfortable, and everyone was hungry, so.. We hit up the Sonic on the way. That helped keep Brian’s mind off of the sand, which, by the time we reached the house, was dry, and fell off nicely in the yard, as the kids ran around and shared a Butterfinger Sonic Blast, after having their own slushes. Wooo! After we were thoroughly sugared up and not so sandy anymore, we went in to wash up and change clothes. We kept the movie night tradition rolling, or at least us girls did! Our movie tonight was Tangled, which is Disney’s updated version of Rapunzel, and one of Kendall’s favorites! Her very favorite song is called “I’ve Got A Dream” and she asks to hear it all the time! Her favorite bit is the “ceramic unicorns” line! I’ll link a video of it below in case you haven’t seen this one. 😉 Also included, pics of the kids this morning, who were outside before breakfast with Grandpa Steve as he had his morning coffee. Brian said he wanted to write down some observations in his science journal, and of course Kendall said, “I wanna do science, too!” and very seriously made notes of her own. 😉

Another awesome day at the seashore.
Forgot to mention I watched the “I’ve Got A Dream” video and heard the song for the first time. Very special song – a keeper.
