Today, our summer beach trip drew to a close, and that meant we spent the morning doing a couple more art projects, and trying one of the activities in the Candy Experiments book that Grandma Sue got for the kids. We observed what happens when Skittles are left in water (their letter S’es really do float right off, and their colors sink to the bottom! While Brandon did the majority of the packing, I helped both kids complete their Melissa & Doug sticker art projects, which are very shiny and cool-looking. We’ll probably hang them in their rooms. Neither kid wanted to leave, and who can blame them? They snagged a few extra seconds of pretend-kayaking before we had to get loaded up. We stopped by Neuse Sport Shop on the way home, like we usually do, and picked up some cool mirrored sunglasses for Kendall, and the goggles she was insisting on (Brian had some from his swimming lessons, and she found it highly offensive that she did not!) We should have gone straight home after that, but we decided to stop at a Dick’s and get one of those canopies like we saw on the beach. We lost our minds and went all in, getting the mosquito netting, the pole weights, a foldable wagon, and even the badminton set the kids were begging for. Probably shouldn’t have splurged like that, but when thinking about making that walk to the beach lugging everything, or going to that outdoor concert at Koka Booth, or just how many dang folding chairs we have now, that wagon sure seemed like a great idea. Plus, I’m sure we’ll use the canopy in the back yard, as well as the beach.
