Basketball Camp, and Sad News

This morning, Brian was excited to head out to basketball camp at Laurel Hills!  We’d picked up some new athletic wear for him, including a new pair of black basketball shoes.  I think he was a little proud of himself!  Brandon snapped a few pictures of him getting into things after dropoff.

Probably around the same time, I received the call from my mom–my grandmother passed away this morning.  It’s hard to know what to do at times like this, but, my instincts said to just head out there, and do whatever is needful.  So, that’s what I did.  When my grandfather passed when I was 12, I didn’t know what to do with myself–but I credit my dad for showing me how to stay busy, do what must be done.  He had the difficult task of breaking the news to me, and, after the initial shock, he gently told me how lots of people would be coming, and we should get ready.  I cleaned and cleaned, everything I could, even clearing out the stalks of the tulips whose petals had fallen.  So, ever since, that’s been a way for me to deal in a crisis.  Today I was grateful that my mom let me clean her house again, it gave me a purpose and a way to feel useful.  At Grandmother’s house, I couldn’t help but take a few snapshots of items that I’d grown up seeing there, that represented her in some way.

Brian looks great in his new basketball shoes and I like those action shots of him on the court.

So sweet and touching to read the other thoughts and memories you shared.

  2. Grandma Cheryl and Grandpa Roger

I could not help but think of Roger playing basketball when he was a kid. It is difficult when a grandmother passes away. I still miss mine and they passed over 30 years ago. So sorry.
