Merry Christmas! We started bright and early with the kids. They came downstairs to the Mameshiba Christmas song–we now have a complete set of the plushie beans they love so much. 😉 We had our Christmas stollen for breakfast, and then it was time for presents. The first thing they noticed was the Tauntaun sleeping bag. 🙂 The kids got the things they asked Santa for when we rode the Santa Train–a Bitty Baby book for Kendall, and Clone Wars Lego sets for Brian. (Among about a million other things..!) Kendall got some very special presents–brand-new pink ice skates, a pink-and-white hockey helmet, and a new pink-and-white Hurricanes jersey! The kids played all morning, until we went over to Steve and Sue’s for Christmas dinner.
My dad’s been in the hospital lately, so we’re all really happy he could be home for Christmas. We made sure to bring lots of Christmas treats. When we arrived, Dad came right over to get a gingerbread cookie! That made me happy. The kids were excited to show him the Star Wars gingerbread they helped make. 🙂 I’d made some more teacakes for him as well. We also had some chocolate fruitcake for him from my mom–it’s been years since we’ve had it. (Thanks, Internet, for helping me find the recipe that had gone missing so long ago!) We shared a really special dinner together, enjoyed lots of treats, and the kids got even more presents–two amazing wooden play castles! A knight’s castle for Brian, and a princess castle for Kendall. Brian had asked me to put those on their wish lists so they could have castle-to-castle battles! They also got some castle dolls and knight figures, and wooden furniture as well. They had fun with their new toys until it was time to head to the airport to pick up Grandpa Roger!
We picked up Grandpa and headed home, and the kids were super excited he was here for the holidays again. Grandpa had gifts and cookies to share, and the kids found even more energy to play. Eventually it had to be bedtime, as all four of their Lego clocks confirmed. As late as it was, I couldn’t help but laugh at them try to turn on the displays of all four clocks at once. 😉 All in all, a wonderfully blessed Christmas day spent together with family.
