Sunday Dinner

Sunday Dinner

I woke up to the sound of the kids playing loudly–I found them with the iPad and Angry Birds in Brian’s room. Hmm.  I prefer a more gentle reintroduction to the world, but, okay.  I got them to at least go downstairs and play with Duplos.  Included is a video of them rocking out to Queen’s “I Want It All” in the van.  Brian does this every-few-words shouting thing (don’t ask, I don’t get it either).  Kendall does her epic Stevie Nicks hippie-hands dance (she’s done that sort of dance almost as long as she’s had the coordination to move her arms on purpose–that’s just a pure Kendall thing!)  Plus, she makes some pretty hilarious little-sister-faces as well.  Queen is Brian’s favorite band right now, and he’s had me make two CDs with their collected works (one for each vehicle) and he wants to hear them anytime we go anywhere.  I’ve just let it go on repeat, even when Brian’s not with me.  I went through a Queen phase for awhile in 7th grade, so it’s been fun for me hearing the songs again.  Some of them are very poignant, given what we’ve been going through lately.  Haha, actually, I’ll confess, “Don’t Stop Me Now” has sort of been my ironic theme song for the past couple weeks.  When things are tough, don’t go the way we planned, or seem impossibly sad, singing along with those completely overblown crazy lyrics kinda helps.  Maybe it’s twisted! But now it’s gone past just me singing alone in the car, to all of us singing it at top volume in the van.  It’s become a bit of an in-joke with Brandon and me.  When something goes wrong, or if I’m going to pieces, all Brandon has to do is sing “havin’ a good time, havin’ a good time” and I can’t help but smile.

Talking to Marci a couple days ago, we agreed that we both want to be there for Sue, ongoing, regularly and predictably.  Sue had mentioned before that she’d always had this dream of regular Sunday dinners with family, so, we’ve decided to institute the Sunday Dinner from now on!  We’ll take turns making food or going out.  We’re looking forward to this new tradition!  Tonight was our inaugural event, as we let Steve take us out to dinner one last time (we used his cash) at a nice Italian place near Sue’s house.  Thanks, Dad.  🙂
