Marbles Camp! Week 1

Marbles Camp:  A Day in the Life of a Happy Camper

  • Play and learn in the museum exhibits
  • Explore games, construction sets and imaginative play in the discovery room
  • Experience the fun and sometimes messy side of art and science in the creative exploration room
  • Dive into our weekly topic in the themed activity room
  • Younger campers get to know each other by sharing books, songs, and snack time, while older campers bond over games and free play

Monday:
AM: Kids Cook: Cook It USA
The week opened with a sweet start, as campers began their road trip around the USA in Georgia!   Our chefs made peach smoothies and peach pies–yum!

PM: Crash Test Lab
Campers began the week with a classic experiment–the egg drop!  Mixed materials were used to create protective structures around confetti-filled eggs from a drop off the blue bridge.  Later, campers dropped the eggs without any protection, for a blast of colorful fun!

Tuesday:
AM: Kids Cook: Cook It USA
Campers took a road trip to Texas where they were inspired to make Texas Turkey Chili; chefs even made a batch of vegetarian chili so that everyone could enjoy the dish!

PM: Crash Test Lab
Campers used pasta today, but not in the kitchen. With lasagna and linguini noodles, 7-8s constructed all sorts of bridges. They tested their structures for stability using 2 pound bags of salt.

Wednesday:
AM: Kids Cook: Cook It USA
Famous for their avocados, California was today’s stop on the road trip. Chefs used the ingredient to make avocado hummus and guacamole.

PM: Crash Test Lab
After the success of Monday’s experiment, scientists were back in the lab with more eggs, but with a few different variables. In this experiment, campers designed new ways to protect the egg from a forceful throw rather than the distance dropped.

Thursday:
AM: Kids Cook: Cook It USA
Idaho potatoes in hand, chefs put together the most delicious baked potato bar. From cheese to sour cream to bacon, 7-8s were prepared with everyone’s favorite toppings!

PM: Crash Test Lab
Today’s lab experiment challenged campers to build cars to safely withstand a crash test. With popsicle sticks, straws, and a variety of other supplies, scientists took creative approaches to giving their cars a safe landing.

Friday:
AM: Kids Cook: Cook It USA
The last stop on the week long road-trip was to Maine to make blueberry and ricotta tartlets! Such a delicious dessert helped to end the week on a sweet note!

PM: Crash Test Lab
The final challenge for the week was to build a stable structure out of some wiggly materials. From twizzlers, gummies, pasta, and a few other pieces, our lab experts designed and tested some great structures.
