Marbles Camp! Week 4

Monday, July 27

This afternoon, Camp Marbles welcomed special guests from the National Inclusion Project to interview members of Team Marbles and shoot some video of inclusive play at Marbles summer camp. National Inclusion Project is one of Marbles many partners-in-play, and they are doing great things in our community. You can learn more about them here.

A Day in the Life of a Happy Camper

  • Play and learn in the museum exhibits
  • Explore games, construction sets and imaginative play in the discovery room
  • Experience the fun and sometimes messy side of art and science in the creative exploration room
  • Dive into our weekly topic in the themed activity room
  • Campers get to know each other by sharing books, songs, and snack time

AM: Kitchen Concoctions
Campers learned about kitchen chemistry this morning. They discovered hidden messages with invisible ink and used “blue worm goo” to make make polymer worms!

PM: Taking Flight
Three, two, one…Blast Off! Campers used soda bottles, straws, tape, streamers and more to construct their bottle rockets. After designing and making them, the flight crew put the rockets to the test.

AM: Kitchen Concoctions
Bubbles was the concoction of the day! Starting with the bubble wand, campers used pipe cleaners to make their own wand. Next, they mixed together the ingredients to make the bubble solution.  Finally, they used the wands and bubble solution they made to blow bubbles!

PM: Taking Flight
7-8s used recycled materials to create high-flying aircrafts. From Styrofoam plates, they traced and cut pieces to build their own gliders. After working so diligently to create the aerodynamic planes, they tested out their designs.

AM: Kitchen Concoctions
Mentos and soda were the two ingredients used in today’s kitchen experiment. 7-8s tested the effects of different flavors of soda on the height of the Mentos geyser. They also used beet and carrot juice to create some juicy artwork.

PM: Taking Flight
7-8s worked hard as they designed parachutes to safely carry a doll to the ground from a test drop. After constructing prototypes, they put their designs to the test. Campers also learned to make their own kites.

Friday, July 31

AM: Kitchen Concoctions

To finish of the week of concoctions, campers popped and snacked on popcorn! They also made tie dye shirts with vinegar and Kool-Aid.  Remember to wash these shirts separately, so they don’t bleed onto other clothing.

PM: Taking Flight
Look up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…a Marbleous quad-copter? 7-8s learned about hovercrafts and propellers today. They made their own hovercrafts from balloons, bottle caps, and Styrofoam. Afterwards, a special guest from Team Marbles joined the group to teach them how to operate a quad-copter.
