Today we were invited to go to Chapel Hill so that Kendall could participate in a study being done by the UNC Psychology department. This was a follow-up to last year’s visit, which Kendall enjoyed–and who wouldn’t enjoy getting piles of stickers for playing games with the researchers? 🙂 So we made the trek out this morning, and Kendall played her games while I filled out huge surveys, and she earned an entire baggie full of stickers, and even a special purple fairy rubber duckie. Awesome! After having to check off words that I’ve heard Kendall say from a huge list, I’m even more impressed with her vocabulary. Of course the researchers can’t tell us exactly what they’re looking for, or anything about her performance–but she had fun, and seemed to be able to do everything they asked of her. 🙂 Afterward, we had lunch at Elmo’s diner, and took the kids into the Ali Cat toy store, that Brandon and I used to always peer into as we waited for our brunch table (on those lazy child-free Sunday mornings, way back when!) Kendall chose a cool book about Wonder Woman, and Brian chose to get some rocks (they have real rock specimens here, not the artificially-colored polished stones which are so common at museums these days). We also got a travel edition of Spot It, which is a fun card game the kids like. Kendall also saw this Mermaid Excavation kit she wanted, but it was after I’d already checked out–I think I’ll order it for her online, it’s cheaper at Amazon, anyway. 😉 Following that, we walked around the campus some, showing the kids some landmarks like the Davie Poplar. We went to Morehead Planetarium for a science demonstration, a tour through the Gross Labs exhibit, and a planetarium show–and of course running-around-the-sundial time. We made a really fun science-filled day of it, and did our part to help out some real scientists, too!
