Vegas Trip 4

Today was my last day in Vegas, and it was a long one!  I was happy to see some women represented in the “backs of heads” advertising campaign–I’d complained about that earlier this year, when it seemed that only dudes used Splunk as their secret weapon.  😉  The conference wrapped up, and we had some time to kill before our plane home, so did some souvenir shopping.  The soap store, where everything looked like a dessert, was a lot of fun!  I wish I could have gotten soap for everyone, but even the tiniest mini cupcakes were $20 or more, so that was some expensive soap.  I did get the kids some rubber duckie “cupcakes”, and a chocolate-scented cupcake soap for Jennie.  We stopped by Shibuya for an encore of my favorite beverage and some of the amazing gyoza.  My coworker Tom wanted to visit an art installation inside the Louis Vuitton store, so we did that.  I felt extremely outclassed in that store, and didn’t want to touch anything, especially since I was dressed in conference gear (t-shirt, jeans, combat boots, hoodie).  I took the free Perrier and cloth napkin, though.  😉  It was a fun experience anyway, although I think Tom got a lot more out of it than I did, to be honest.  Mostly I was just annoyed at the new floaters in my vision–getting old sucks! 😉  We saw some other interesting art pieces at the same shopping center as the LV store, including a mirrored tower of flickering digital numbers.  Even just the mall decorations were nice, like the twinkly lights with vines overhead, and the succulent plant garden.  I saw some Tiny Death Star t-shirts in one of the MGM stores, that’s a game that Brian and I have gotten really into on our Kindle Fires.  They didn’t have kids’ sizes, or even small adult sizes, but I went online and found some similar shirts that I ordered for Brian before we even left the MGM.  Later we visited a Ramen shop we’d spied the day before called Yusho, and I had a truly amazing bowl of ramen noodles.  We laughed at a dessert that was described as “Earl Grey Froot Loop Ice Cream Mochi with Salted Caramel”–because, really, what?!?!  But after dinner we were just so curious, we actually ordered the thing, and it’s exactly as described.  😀  Another cool thing about Yusho was the interesting painting we saw around the restaurant.  We asked about them, and it seems that there’s a local art collective that meets there monthly, and they give the paintings they produce to the restaurant.  Really cool!  By the time we made it on our midnight redeye, we were completely beat.  Whew!  Glad to be back home.  I even snagged some more souvenirs for the kids at the airport before Brandon picked me up–a Hello Kitty bank for Kendall, and an American Airlines plane for Brian (that’s what he asked for!)  Now, to go and sleep all day..!
