Today we had a leisurely wakeup and breakfast, with some playtime in our pajamas. Brian worked on some more Easter Egg decorations and his springtime Curious George coloring book, after watching his new “Curious George Swings into Spring!” DVD. We’re really getting into the springtime spirit!
Eventually we got our act together and headed to Chapel Hill for a small Lego fair that was going on at the Morehead Planetarium. We took a whirlwind tour through some of the planetarium (and I made Brian watch the “Powers of Ten” video, one of my favorites!) and eventually found the Lego display, all the way up on the fourth floor. Brian had a great time, looking at the huge Lego displays, and of course, playing with the Legos they had out for the kids. Brandon and I liked seeing some of the cool artistic creations and feats of Lego engineering, as well as a historical display of Lego Modulex, a discontinued series that was aimed at architects for their 3-D models. Brian really liked a display that had light-up bricks and moving parts, including a Lego Star Wars Museum that opened up, displaying a ton of Star Wars Minifigures inside!
Kendall was a little stir crazy, so once the show started packing up, we headed outside and let the kids play on the sundial outside. The rose bushes aren’t blooming yet, but they’ll be fabulous in another couple months! We planned on getting dinner at Franklin St. Pizza and Pasta, but, to our horror, it was gone! Replaced by something advertising “Gangnam Style Chicken”. Normally we’d be all about investigating potential Korean food, but, not today.. This was almost too much for me and Brandon to handle, as another favorite, Pepper’s Pizza, had closed down recently as well. The kids didn’t know what a blow we were suffering, of course, and they were happy to stroll around Franklin St.
We decided to head to Elmo’s Diner in Carrboro instead. We had a great dinner there, and the kids were about as well-behaved as could be expected. Brian colored the usual Elmo’s Duck and was proud of his creation. And, wouldn’t you know, on the way out, we noticed a new pizza shop had opened in Carr Mill Mall. As we were walking by, I noticed that some of the signs and equipment seemed familiar, like what we remembered from Franklin St. Pizza and Pasta. Doubling back and looking closer, they were exactly the same! We were overjoyed to see that our pizza place wasn’t gone for good, but had changed its name and moved to Carrboro! Of course we were really full from our dinner at Elmo’s at this point, but we weren’t going to be deterred, especially after this pizza miracle! We got one of every kind of specialty slice packed to go, and took it home! We’ll be having special pizza dinner for the next two nights, woohoo! 🙂
On the way out of town, we drove by our old house. It blew Brian’s mind that Mommy and Daddy had an existence before he was around, and that we used to live in Chapel Hill. But, the house is looking good, and I was happy to see the bulbs I’d planted are still doing well!
