Life+Science Museum!

We spent a lot of our Memorial Day at home, just relaxing..  But, eventually, we did make it out of the house and paid a visit to the Life and Science Museum in Durham!  As it turned out, we got there so late in the day, we didn’t have a lot of time.  With just over an hour until closing time, we would have to take our tour Casa Bonita-style..!  But, we decided to go ahead and become members, and vowed to come back really soon!

The first thing the kids really got into was the Soundspace exhibit.  They just loved running around the room, seeing their dot on the screen move around, and hear all the cool sounds that their movements made!  Kendall stomped and twirled, and Brian sprinted around in a circle!  Both tried to make as much noise as possible, and Brandon and I tried it out, too!   Then, we went outside, and the playground was a big draw, of course.  The kids both really enjoyed the percussion area out there, and Brian noticed that a lot of the noise-making toys used to be something else–“reduce, reuse, recycle!”  We tried out a lot of the water contraptions, and the kids enjoyed pumping water to see what the machines could do.  We headed up the path to the Catch the Wind exhibit, and Brian thought that was a cool name.  We tried some of the stations and learned about observing the wind’s effects–the shimmer walls with air blasters were a hit!  Next, Brian discovered the sailboat pond, and that’s where we spent the rest of our time.  He couldn’t wait to drive a boat, and ran flat out to find a free station.  The controls took a little getting used to, but soon, his boat was sailing and doing fine.  Kendall also thought the boats were pretty great, and she tried turning the big wheels, too!  All too soon, the museum had to close, and we were sad to have to go so quickly–but, we took some photos by the big rocket, and decided to stay in Durham for a dinner and visit Elmo’s Diner, one of our favorites!  The kids both really got into using their crayons to color Elmo Duck, and Brian even made his picture into a desert scene!
