Brian’s First Day of Kindergarten!

Today’s a big day for all of us!  It’s Brian’s first day of Kindergarten!  We had breakfast together, and then were off on our new morning routine.  Brian was pretty excited to have his new backpack (yes, it’s the same as his old backpack!)  We took Kendall to Goddard first, and then went to Root.  Brian was happy to be back at Root, and was super excited to see Ms. Misty right out front.  Then, we made our way down the hall to the Kindergarten classes.  We liked all the signs that said “This way to Kindergarten!”  Brian saw Ms. Cannon and gave her a big hug, and talked to another teacher who was in front of the media center for awhile.  But nothing compares to Brian’s reaction when he saw Ms. Sarah Catherine at the far end of the hall!  He yelled her name and ran flat out to give her a huge hug!  We talked for a bit while Brandon filled out his first day form, and then it was time to let Brian start his day.  He wasn’t worried a bit, and happily went on in to his classroom, had his picture taken, and sat right down and started coloring.  I was so proud of him, my heart was just bursting!  I managed to get out of there without the waterworks starting in earnest (the teachers helpfully had Kleenex right by the door to hand to all the moms!)  Brandon and I talked in the car about how far he’s come, and how we know he’s going to do great.  He’s ready to fly.

(PS–I took photos of the signs to remind all of us locals, please link your Harris Teeter VIC cards to #2804, Root Elementary!  And collect those “Box Tops for Education”–Root’s first collection is in October, so let’s see how many we can contribute. It’s only the first day but I’ve already linked my VIC card and have a baggie of Box Tops started, hanging on the fridge. 🙂  )

(PPS–I’m off to start preparing Brian’s first day celebration dinner. Our Produce Box is bringing some heirloom tomatoes, peaches, Great Harvest rolls, hoop cheese, and organic grass-fed beef today, and Brian said wanted to have all of those for his dinner.  But, he also told me what he really wants is Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes–“you know, with loooots of garlic,” he said.  No idea where he gets it. 😉

Brian, what a special day – your first day of kindergarten. Neat backpack and Star War shirt.
