Science Museum Sunday

Today we went back to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham!  We had more time to play today, so we made the most of it.  We revisited Brian’s favorite “Catch the Wind” exhibits and drove the sailboats for a really long time.  Brandon and Brian had the yellow and yellow stripe boats this time, and with some cooperation from the wind, had them sailing all over the lake.  The kids still loved the Soundspace room, of course, and did a fair amount of dancing in there (it’s also a good place to cool off after being outside!)  We had lunch at an outdoor cafe, and Brian noticed some strawberries growing right beside our table.  We rode the train, which is always a big hit.  We got to pose for photos at the end.  Brian and I took a tour through the butterfly house and saw many beautiful butterflies and flowers (Brandon isn’t exactly into lepidoptera).  We also saw an ant farm, a real working beehive, and my favorite, the brightly-colored poison dart frogs.  Afterward, Brian picked out some butterfly decorations that he thinks Kendall needs to have in her room, and a car-shaped pillow for himself at the gift shop.  Back in the main building, Brian and Brandon did a whole lot of building, making huge towering block pagodas.  Kendall wouldn’t stop biting on the blocks, so she and I took a tour through the weather exhibits, and she really liked the cloud maker, especially once she learned that the mist was cool and okay to play with!  Another of her favorite things was, surprisingly enough, the sink that was made for her height in the bathroom.  She was so excited to be able to reach a sink without a stepstool or adult help!  She turned the water on and off, and was just overjoyed by this!
