Backyard Pool Party

Today we invited the Orazis over for a backyard pool party and cookout!  The weather was great, and between the splash pool and a pile squirt toys, the kids had a blast!  Brandon set up all sorts of sprinklers to go along as well.  He and Brian had a bit of fun at Lowes getting short lengths of hose, splitters, and sprinklers of all kinds. 😉  The boys were just as rough-and-tumble as you’d expect, but they seemed to look out for Kendall a bit.  She didn’t need much looking out for, though, since she tried her hardest to hang right with them and do everything they did!  The kids dried off and played inside while the dads manned the grill, and after dinner, we had red-white-and-blue Jell-O dessert!  This was a bit of a flop, actually..  We had tried using our new Star Wars mega-molds, but the gelatin didn’t hold its shape at all, and half of it stuck inside the mold.  We were looking forward to a Berry Blue R2-D2 and a red Han Solo frozen in Cherry with Fruit Cocktail, but perhaps the added fruit watered down the gelatin too much.  We’ll work on refining our technique. 😉  But, even if the shapes didn’t work out, the kids enjoyed making parfaits out of it, with whipped topping!

Our top-floor air conditioner’s on the fritz (that’s why you see Kendall napping on her blanket, camped out in the living room), so cooling off in the water was quite a treat!  Kendall wore her new Hello Kitty dress when she wasn’t splashing, and wow, she was pretty proud of that.  She even carried around the tag for awhile.  Oh, and she was wearing her Hello Kitty pajamas this morning..  Have we mentioned how much she likes Hello Kitty? 😉  Brian needed to see some Star Wars over breakfast, and as usual, Kendall just loves the opening theme.  As soon as the main title music starts, her arms are straight up in the air, and she’s laughing and squealing with delight!  Kendall is another budding artist, currently all about the markers.  We have to watch her closely, since she tends to put things in her mouth still, but she loves to make marks on the easel!  She actually likes to wear a smock, too–she’ll bring it to us when she wants to draw.   The kids are able to share and work on the easel together–that’s really fun to see. 🙂
