Today was a special day for Brian, since he had a teacher workday, and Kendall didn’t! I’d planned on having a fun day together, just the two of us, but it was impacted by a trip to the doctor and radiologist this morning to see about Brian’s hurt arm, and a parent-teacher conference this afternoon. (Results: Brian’s arm, inconclusive; teacher conference, Brian is doing great in school!) Big thanks to Rosemary for watching Brian so both of us could attend the conference. 🙂 Even with all the appointments, we managed to have some fun together, and made these fun character pumpkins! Darth Vader and Hello Kitty, they go together like peanut butter and chocolate at our house. 🙂 We also enjoyed some Lego time (check out the minifigures that Brian made last Saturday at the Lego store! Are they creative or what? I think my favorite is Firefighter-Fairy-Pirate-Mermaid.)
We realized that even though we have a good number of pumpkins at this point, we don’t have ones that are great for carving, so, we picked up Kendall early and were off to the Farmer’s Market to get a big pumpkin! This close to Halloween, the really big ones are crazy expensive, and the sorta-big ones are on a pretty steep discount. So, we opted for 3 medium size and a bunch of small gourds that the kids love, and somehow got out of there for only $12. It’s always fun to watch the kids run around among the pumpkins and gourds, but a challenge to capture them.. So please enjoy these photos of the backs of their heads! 😉
Kendall was particularly cute in her bath tonight, saying “oink oink!” for the piggy on her book, and collecting a bunch of duckies. But before that, we had a bit of a mishap before bath.. As Brandon was starting some laundry, Kendall somehow made it into the bathroom, opened up the closet door, took out some bubble bath, and poured it all over the floor! She was as appalled at the mess as we were, which was both pitiful and sort of cute. Luckily, a soap spill is probably about the best kind of wet spill there is, so we all recovered quickly and moved on to bathtime fun. (And we got a doorknob cover for that closet!) Kendall played where’s the duck, hiding them in the bubbles and then pulling them out. She can say “duck”, “where?”, “I found it!”, “quack-quack!” and so much more. Eventually, she put three of them together, and looked at me and said so clearly and pointedly, “Old MacDonald!” I love it when she surprises me with new, big words! So I sang for her and she rocked out with her ducks. Later, in her PJs, she wore Brian’s boots again and paid him a visit. It’s hard for her to walk in those big boots, but she’s determined!
