Today was Brian’s 7th birthday party, and what a bash it was! Even though his favorite Star Wars spinoff series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was cancelled more than a year ago, through the magic of eBay, and the Internet, I was able to collect all the party supplies we needed so that he could have the Clone Wars party he dreamed of. Today was a busy one! We checked on our caterpillars again this morning at Goddard–still munching, if maybe a bit slower. We watched a few of them decide they are full, and drop off of the leaves, quickly burrowing under the pine straw. This afternoon, Brian had an early release day, so we went ahead and got the kids early and took them along as we picked up Brian’s birthday cake. This morning, Brian was excited to see if the caterpillars were still at Goddard School, and boy, were they! I think there were even more than yesterday. We could hear them munching on the leaves! I was glad to see that even though they were doing a number on the tree, the folks at Goddard were letting nature take its course. Brian was so interested in these guys, that we looked up some information about them. It turns out, these Yellowstriped Oakworms rarely actually harm the tree....

Today we noticed some really cool looking caterpillars on the oak tree we usually park near at the Goddard School. Brian was really interested in them, so we got out of the car to take a closer look.
