Playtime
It’s the day after Brian’s party, and we’re taking it easy, trying to recover. The kids had fun playing with toys today–Kendall really likes the full Cantina Band setup, especially with the new Jabba the Hutt. Brian liked setting up elaborate battle scenes, and also set up a Jedi Restaurant, complete with a sneeze guard....

Today was Brian’s 7th birthday party, and what a bash it was! Even though his favorite Star Wars spinoff series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was cancelled more than a year ago, through the magic of eBay, and the Internet, I was able to collect all the party supplies we needed so that he could have the Clone Wars party he dreamed of. We surprised him with a special present this morning, a talking Captain Rex helmet! Rex is Brian’s favorite character, so being able to wear his...

Today was a busy one! We checked on our caterpillars again this morning at Goddard–still munching, if maybe a bit slower. We watched a few of them decide they are full, and drop off of the leaves, quickly burrowing under the pine straw. This afternoon, Brian had an early release day, so we went ahead and got the kids early and took them along as we picked up Brian’s birthday cake. It’s a 3D Captain Rex helmet, and we all thought they did a fantastic job of it! The cake...

Today we noticed some really cool looking caterpillars on the oak tree we usually park near at the Goddard School. Brian was really interested in them, so we got out of the car to take a closer look. I took a couple pictures and videos this morning (it was overcast), and another this afternoon, when it was much sunnier. Also included, pics of the kids with some new funny t-shirts. Kendall’s shirt has a cute Princess Leia stuck behind Chewbacca saying “Will somebody get this big...

Kendall just can’t wait to be the Buttercup Fairy for Halloween, and she seems to really like the Flower Fairies. My tiny books from when I was a kid have only a limited selection, and Buttercup herself doesn’t appear in them. It seems that a few years ago, the estate of Mary Cicely Barker went on a pretty major publishing spree, and this cute boxed set of hardcover books was part of that. It’s out of print now, and I didn’t expect to find a decent used copy for a...

Today we hung up Brian’s new models in his room, Anakin’s and Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighers. We also flipped over the Lego table and had some marker fun on the whiteboard side. Brian came up with the idea of drawing different sorts of “worlds” on it, and we had a great time filling up the space with different single-biome planets (sort of like in Star Wars!) Tonight, like many nights, the kids put on their coordinating pajamas and asked for a dance party! We...
