Certified! (Or Certifiable?)
I did it! It’s official! I’m a Red Hat Certified Architect. I’ve spent the last few months pursuing this certification pretty aggressively, taking a ton of classes and a series of practical exams. It’s hard to explain just how rare this cert is, and how difficult it is to achieve, if you’re not in the industry. It requires passing five multi-hour exams (on top of the certification I already held). My health and sanity have suffered a bit while I worked toward...
Read MoreMother’s Day
For Mother’s Day, Brandon and the kids made sure I had a lovely day! They woke me up to my first gift of blueberry pancakes and maple syrup. Brian helped get breakfast ready. Kendall was wearing her “Good Morning Mommy” PJs. Later, the kids helped Brandon refresh the sandbox by replacing all the old sand with fresh play sand. Moving all that sand was heavy, as Brian showed us to great dramatic effect! We enjoyed the new sand as well as some chalk drawing time. For...
Read MorePumpkins Concert
Tonight, Brandon and I escaped for a rare weeknight outing, having a nice dinner at Oro and then going to the Smashing Pumpkins concert at Red Hat Amphitheater! Huge thanks to Steve and Sue for picking up the kids from school, feeding them dinner, and treating them to a really fun night so that we could go out! I first saw the Smashing Pumpkins in concert 20 (gulp!) years ago, and it was nearly as long ago for Brandon. It’s fair to say they are Brandon’s all-time favorite band,...
Read MoreRecord Store Day!
I seem to have been bitten by the record collector bug once again, and I’ve been upgrading my turntable and working on creating a database of all our records and CDs. I decided to share some of my hobby with Brian today, and took him with me to go celebrate Record Store Day at a couple of our local independent record shops! There aren’t too many left these days, but two of my old favorites are still kicking–Schoolkids Records and Nice Price Books. We went to Nice Price...
Read MoreMystery Readers!
Today was a special day for us at Goddard School–Brandon and I got to be Mystery Readers for Brian’s class! Different parents took turns reading some of their child’s favorites for the class this week. Brian was pretty surprised when it was our turn! We brought in two of his favorites, Punk Farm and Punk Farm on Tour. Brandon read the original and I read the sequel. I made a video of Brandon reading, since he does such a great job with it! 🙂 After the books, we played...
Read More‘Canes Alumni Game
Today was the Carolina Hurricanes’ Alumni Game, which is a really fun family event that we look forward to! Veteran players return to the ice, and even some fans get to play with them (I think they probably have to make a pretty nice donation to charity to get the chance..! 🙂 Kendall was adorable in her pink jersey, and Brian was rocking both the black jersey and ball cap. (He was pretty pleased with those bunny snacks in the tie dye bag, he wants you to know about them!) Our friend...
