Halloween

Boo! It’s, finally, Halloween! The kids have been asking about it since spring and it’s here! This one is going to be a little different as Alison has to start-out on her trip to Brno, Czech Republic before Trick-or-Treating time. Alison hated to have to miss it, but luckily she was able to be there for the Red Hat Family Halloween Party and the Goddard Trunk-or-Treating celebration. But, we’ll get back to that in a moment.

The day started out fairly normal with Kendall having swim lessons in the morning with me. Meanwhile, Alison took Brian to his LEGO Club meeting. As it is Halloween, they actually had a costume party build. Brian wore his Captain Rex outfit with pride!

As we would be out and about in the neighborhood Trick-or-Treating this evening, and as a result leaving candy out on the front stairs on the honor system, Brian decided to make a sign to help the ghouls and goblins along! If you can’t read it on the photo it is:

Happy Halloween children
please take a few pieces of
candy, but not too many!
Everyone should get some
Boo!!

Besides being functional, it looks really good too!

The kids also took the time to put their Carolina Hurricanes window clings up on their bedroom windows. Little did we know that they would want to put ALL of them up!

It was now time to get Alison off to RDU airport for her trip to Washington, followed by Vienna. Parting was sad, but exciting! Hey, Airplanes! We took the opportunity to take a quick break in the observation park at the airport to ride Plasma Cars around and pretend to be planes!

Marci and Sue came over with Chick-fil-A take-out to eat at home while watching “Toy Story of Terror!” I finished outdoor decorations. We got a few extras this year as I found a few clearance items at Lowe’s! When it got dark enough, our Butterfly Girl and Captain Rex went out into the night to get their booty!

Alison kept us posted on her progress when she had signal. We did the same by sending photos back to keep her updated! She also knows that Brian is big into aviation and would be interested in the specifics of the aircraft she was riding in and the airports she was traveling to.

Back in Raleigh, we were surprised to find that Marci had a tiger suit to trick-or-treat in, and it was a real treat for all the kids! We made loops through all the streets in the neighborhood and stocked up on all sorts of candy and snacks! Brian was so excited, he decided to swim through his treats like Scrooge McDuck!

After Sue and Marci left for the night, Brian and Kendall got up to their rooms to find surprise messages from mom which really added an extra special end to a super-fun day!

I ended up collapsing at the end of it all, glad we could make a fun time for the kids and let Alison not worry about us at home while she goes on her trip overseas!
