Fall Book Fair
Tonight was Brian’s fall semester book fair! It had a cool knights-and-dragons theme. We picked up everything on his list, plus a few things for Kendall as well. He liked the big standup sign advertising the new Star Wars Rebels series. Not a lot of photos, since I was carrying all of his stuff! Today all the geeky-Internet-buzz was about a Barbie children’s book, where supposedly Barbie was a computer engineer–but she was portrayed as thoroughly incompetent, needing the...
Read MoreSunday Canes Game and Free T-Shirt
Any day you can go to a hockey game it’s a good day, but the result may not have been exactly as we would have liked. Even though the Carolina Hurricanes put up 45 shots (about 50% more than average) and the San Jose Sharks only had 19 shots on goal (about 33% less than average), the ‘Canes were shut-out in a 2-0 loss at home. On a positive note, a gentleman that sits near us got one of the free T-shirts from Stormy (the Ice Hog mascot). He had already caught a few in his time, and...
Read MoreRen Faire!
Today, we went to the Ren Faire! It was bitterly cold, and I’m having some complications from my supposedly-zero-downtime surgery, which put a damper on things (for me, anyway). They had a display out front of a Delorean and hover board, like from the Back To The Future movies (we had to explain those to the kids). We were able to see some of our favorite shows, and some new ones. We ate some of our favorite snacks, shivering in the cold. Brandon’s friend Miguel stopped by,...
Read MoreFriday Night Out
It’s Friday Night, and a Parent Night Out, and even though Brian had his Initiation to Hockey class, we didn’t want to miss out! I’m still recovering from surgery, but things seem a little better today and I thought I might be up for going out. I took it easy for awhile as Brandon took Brian to class after school. I took a couple photos of the fun felt items I’ve made while lying about in bed recovering. I thought I’d done a good job on those sugar wafers at...
Read MoreBrian’s Treasure Hunt, Kendall’s Treasure
Over the weekend, we picked up some treasure boxes for the kids, thinking they’d keep things in them like their dress-up clothes, etc. Brian had other plans, however! He made a treasure hunt for us, complete with maps, and instructions that led us to.. further instructions. Eventually, we followed all of his maps and found the treasure–which was all of his yellow and gold-colored Halloween candy! Nice game, Brian. 🙂 Kendall celebrated Brandon’s trip to the grocery store...
Read MoreDentist Visit
Today was the kids’ dentist visit, and we’re proud to report: no cavities! Both kids did great, and got to choose a prize afterward. Brian was pretty excited to get a mini Rubik’s cube! When we took him back to school, we were happy to see not one, but two pieces of Brian’s artwork, framed and hanging up on the main hallway’s wall at Root! One was his collage that had been at the State Fair, and the other was him being a super hero, rescuing a puppy. Great...
