Pumpkin Patch Express!
Today was a busy day! We started off with some yummy Star Wars pancakes, and then headed off to the Museum of Life+Science in Durham for the Pumpkin Patch Express! For this event, the museum staff sets up lots of fun games and activities in the woods, at the far end of the train loop. The kids enjoyed choosing pumpkins, decorating with Halloween-themed foam stickers, making pumpkin decorations with pony beads and pipe cleaners, and all the games! Brian loved the pumpkin slingshot the most,...

Today was Brian’s last day of Lego camp, and his last day of summer camps, period! He was hiding under the table when we came to pick him up, but he got to make and keep a minifigure, so that made saying goodbye a little easier. 😉 This morning before camp, we took Brian over to Root for Meet the Teacher day, where we all got to meet his new teacher, Mrs. Hounwanou. She’s new to Root, coming here all the way from Kansas City. She seems very nice, and we had a great talk with her...

When processing the results of our scanning day, I had the horrifying realization that the first photos we did that day (which were rather dusty, coated in disintegrating tape, etc.) had done a number on the scanning lens. Nearly all of the following scans had some pretty major flaws, due to dust on the lens. I’m somewhat proficient at fixing up photos, but.. I’m not practically able to do hundreds of edits on hundreds of photos, in any reasonable amount of time. So.. We...

Today we mostly just hung out at home! We had a nice waffle breakfast–Brian made a house guy out of his waffle, sausage, and melon balls. Kendall has gotten into Team Umizoomi, so Brian is somewhat interested in them again, too–he was using his workbook some, and she really wanted to get in on that! Kendall has been asking for another tattoo to wear, so we found one of her Hello Kitty ones from her birthday party, and hooked up up with some new (pretend) ink. She was very...

Happy Father’s Day! Our first (and probably best) present for Brandon was to let him sleep in today. I bought him some time by keeping the kids busy making a pancake breakfast. They helped me decorate the pancakes with Hello Kitty stamps, using chocolate and strawberry syrup, and with Star Wars stencils, using powdered sugar and cocoa powder. We also made up a big batch of citrus water, using our new beverage dispenser. This doubled as a sort of science experiment for Brian, seeing...
Read MoreThomas and Tweetsie, 2014 Edition!
Regular readers of our family expeditions know that we have been making yearly treks to spend a day out with Thomas since Brian was first able to watch the show. This year is no different, and this is the biannual trip to see him at Tweetsie Railroad, in Blowing Rock, instead of the NC Transportation Museum, in Spencer. The trip two years ago worked out well, with an infant even, that we basically setup the same trip. We left Raleigh after Brian attended Hudson’s Birthday Party...
