Trip day 4
Today was my last day in Vegas, and while my tummy troubles have abated, I’m developing some sore-throat/sinusy-thing–sheesh, I’d be having a better time if my body would cooperate and just be healthy for five minutes! We went to more talks today, and finished up our trip by getting dinner at a fancy restaurant (Pearl, a Chinese place inside the MGM) and going to see a Cirque du Soleil show, Ka. Afterward, we picked up our bags and headed to the airport! Taking the red-eye...

Today was my big day–I did my presentation, and even being sick, with no sleep, I managed it! Everyone said I did really well, and I was relieved to be done. The kids had sent me a really sweet “good luck” video! I did my second panel in the afternoon, part of a Q&A with other customers, and that also went well. After that, I had a little time before my next event, so we did a little FaceTime chat from my hotel room. It was so fun to talk with the kids and give them...

Today was the first real day at the conference, we started off with a fancy keynote address (our CIO from Red Hat was a speaker!) We checked out the Red Hat booth (which was curiously unmanned early in the morning, hmm!) We spent the day going to lots of different talks and meetups, and this evening there was a party with a gigantic inflatable Buttercup Pwny. I thought the kids would be amused by that! Brandon sent me photos of the kids, and it was nice to catch up with everyone by phone...

Today I was off to Las Vegas, to speak at Splunk .conf 2014! The kids saw me off at the airport early this morning. I painted them a quick surprise picture before I left! I took some photos from the airport and from the plane to send them, and Brandon took a photo of them after school to send to me. Pretty cool to see the Grand Canyon from the plane! I hope we can take them there one day. My day was pretty much nothing but travel, but my co-workers and I did manage to get checked in,...

Today was a busy day! We started off with some yummy Star Wars pancakes, and then headed off to the Museum of Life+Science in Durham for the Pumpkin Patch Express! For this event, the museum staff sets up lots of fun games and activities in the woods, at the far end of the train loop. The kids enjoyed choosing pumpkins, decorating with Halloween-themed foam stickers, making pumpkin decorations with pony beads and pipe cleaners, and all the games! Brian loved the pumpkin slingshot the most,...

Today was Brian’s last day of Lego camp, and his last day of summer camps, period! He was hiding under the table when we came to pick him up, but he got to make and keep a minifigure, so that made saying goodbye a little easier. 😉 This morning before camp, we took Brian over to Root for Meet the Teacher day, where we all got to meet his new teacher, Mrs. Hounwanou. She’s new to Root, coming here all the way from Kansas City. She seems very nice, and we had a great talk with her...
